The name fruit acids include both AHA and BHA. AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid, which are water-soluble acids such as glycolic acid, lactic acid and malic acid. BHA stands for beta hydroxy acid and this includes the fat-soluble acid salicylic acid.
An AHA fruit acid peeling softens the sealant substance (glue) between dead skin cells in the stratum corneum. We therefore call this a softening substance. Softening this sealant substance results in the dead skin cells peeling off more easily and quickly. The skin becomes visibly smoother, fuller and more even in complexion. A fruit acid peeling also stimulates the skin to produce new collagen.
